How to Change
PART 2 of a series of steps to take before the New Year (but only if you're interested in heeding the call of your Higher Self!)
Thank you for being here Dear One. Heads up that the last half of this post is for my readers with a paid subscription. This isn’t meant to be a barrier, but rather a way to show support for my writing because I put a great deal of time & effort into creating it. I would love for you to become one, if you’re interested click here.
How do you know your highest self is calling for a change? In my experience, it’s in the niggling little insights we see - but try to unsee because they don’t fit with what we think is part of the plan (appropriate, convenient, attainable, and not at all scary). But it becomes difficult to turn away once we’ve got a glimpse of it. It’s there, deep in the quiet recesses of our heart waiting for us to pay attention, calling us to Wholeness.
I’ve been called to become a chiropractor (utterly unrealistic at the time), a Mom (no manual provided), to quit drinking (my initial response to this was a downright not-gonna-do-it), and to write (I have no idea what I’m doing). I know what it’s like to sense the tug of your soul but not know what to do, just as I know what it’s like to do the hard work to get on the other side of it. It seems we are rarely called to do something easy. I am also deeply familiar with having no idea what direction I’m headed.
This piece, as well as the next few, are about how to prepare for change. It's not the change that involves fixing something, like setting a New Year’s resolution to lose 10 lbs. I’m talking about the shift that takes you closer to who you are deep inside. The outcome may be that you lose 10 lbs in the new year but it’s because you leaned into your inner whisper to live a life of health and vitality.
The reason most folks are unsuccessful in their bid to change their life is because they try to shift something while also staying the same. You can see the problem here! We use our brain pathways that are most developed, so when we want to do something new we must use, or create, a different pathway. Putting in effort, in advance of the change, to visualize and feel into your plan develops these pathways. Your brain starts to wire this information as if it’s a reality, so when the time comes (say a new year for example) your brain recognizes this behavior, and it is easier to adapt.
Ask yourself if something is nudging you from the inside asking you to take action, reminding you that life moves quickly. Perhaps your heart's desire is waiting but you never take the time to reach for it. These are the changes we are moving toward in the coming year. I invite you to join me as I explore (what I think is) the main question - HOW do we do this?
