Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance.

-Steven Pressfield from The War of Art

We each contain magic dust that helps overcome our sense of feeling stuck, but often that mysterious force lies dormant. It’s hidden behind a big scary monster called the Unknown.

Today’s mission is to figure out what we can do about the stuckness of the universal law of resistance. For some weird reason, we all tend to fight it when we’re trying to help ourselves. Whether it’s to initiate a difficult conversation or take the promotion, at some point in the process of self-improvement we get a strong urge to sit on the couch or run the other way.

Here’s what we can do about that.

(This post is for my paid subscribers which is not meant to be a hurdle, rather it’s a way to support the effort that goes into my work. For the price of a latte a month you will have access to all of The Bright Life. Some of the things I’ll be talking about in future posts include: how to let go of control, what we can do about our underlying sense of unworthiness, the myth of a purpose-driven-life and much more.)

Woman bundled up in winter clothes, a snow covered lake and mountains in the background with the sun rising.
ME, overcoming resistance in real life. This was taken last week. It was 7am, -18C, very cold and beautiful. I had the lake to myself and it was magical, but had to make myself do it.
I know life is expensive. If you desire to support my work, but you’re unable to do so right now, contact me at donnamcarthur@substack.com and I’ll be happy to comp you a subscription.
