Preparing for change #4 - manage the cravings
Also a convo on change with Bowen Dwelle of An Ordinary Disaster
Thank you for being here Dear One! This is the fourth post in a series on change - the kind that draws us closer to our center rather than fixing something. The first part of this post is an interview I recently did with
for his newsletter We enjoyed a rich conversation, sharing our thoughts on change, intuition, and being human. The second half of this post, written for my paid subscribers, is about how to tame the dragon that is our cravings! It can be a gnarly beast and it’s been my experience that having a plan established ahead of time makes cravings easier to understand and manage. I’ll share my story and some ideas.
Thank you so much for being here with me!
I’m fascinated by how each of us approaches life differently, how we know when we need to shift, and what we do, or don’t do, about it. My buddy
lives an exotic life on a boat in Sausalito (he likely wouldn’t say it’s exotic but it seems magical to me given that I grew up on the prairies). We are very different and also the same - we are both humans striving to do our best. Just like you.Join us as we talk about life, the changes we’ve made, if intuition played a role, and other good stuff.
You can check out Bowen’s many excellent essays, including his memoir, over at
where he writes about courage, intuition, adventure, and growth. The first time I quit drinking I often felt like a fire-breathing dragon was consuming me. It showed up in the form of my craving which was always on the verge of gobbling me up. I was successful in my bid to be sober for a year - if one considers white-knuckling it to the finish line any kind of win. I only made it to the end of my commitment because I come from a long line of willful, stubborn pioneering stock. The same genes that got me into this mess got me out of it!
This part of the post is available for my paid subscribers which is not meant to be a barrier to anyone but a way for you to show your support for the time and effort this work requires.
