There is so much wisdom here Jade, thank you for sharing it! I love that your eye drops and hearing aids command the respect they deserve and have a place of honor in your morning. May we all choose be be more observant and less judgemental, just as you are💕
“Allow things to BE without the need to analyze why they are that way.”
— this is a lesson I’ve been trying to (once again) learn of late.
I’ve actually been doing a somatic tracking technique lately (I assume you know what that is and if you don’t I’m sure you’ll be interested), that is basically exactly the same as your second thing you mentioned.
Notice the sensation in your body physical or emotional, and just allow it to be there, maybe even pay attention to it with some curiosity, is there anything about it that’s informative? Insightful? Interesting? And then, when your ready allow it to float by your conscious awareness. Not to get rid of it - the sensation or emotion may stay, but your attention on it can shift.
It’s been very informative and helpful and a radically different approach to my old reactive way of being.
I am both glad and fascinated that you're doing somatic work Michael. I always see you in the role of a teacher/therapist/healer, as well as writer, and this may be one big part of the journey you have been forced to take.
Recently I have been doing a lot of reading about the signals our body will send us before our brain and heart are ready to see them and have been reminded about the importance of listening - even if we also have to do other medical things to heal our physical self.
I look forward to hopefully hearing more about the approaches you're taking in future essays.
Thank you, Donna. It’s a strange thing — you’re not the first person to say they see me in that sort of role. I guess, if that’s what the universe has planned, then who am I to stop it? Haha
Yes, it is very interesting to listen to the signal of the body and try to gleam insight from them, while, of course, still tending to very tangible medical treatments as well. It’s a balancing act.
I’m sure in time there will be essays about all this stuff. Hopefully, given enough time, there will be whole books about this weird fucking journey I’ve been on haha.
Letting go....as you say, not easy. It is almost like a spiral that accesses layers of personal emotional involvement. Some aspects seem new but I now know that it is tethered to something that mag be deeply rooted. Some letting go feels like tossing tissue paper into a breeze and sometimes it feels like your house is burning to the ground. It is typically not simple. At least, it hasn't proven to be for me. At one point, the thing that I needed to let go of seemed soul crushing....not the case anymore. Progress.
I agree Adele, almost nothing is as it seems at the surface. When we keep peeling away the layers we see how far back the patterns can go and it feels like a daunting task to walk into that burning building and put out the fire. I know the only way to do that is by taking the next right step, but some days that feels pretty hard or confusing.
It's wonderful to hear that what used to seem soul crushing no longer is!
Its always wonderful to see you here in the comments section, thank you for taking the time to leave such great insight.
Lovely thoughts and lessons. Letting go, accepting and surrender are very different for me. Ie: Letting go of an emotion. Accepting a situation or person. Surrender only to G-d. 🥰🙏🏻
Carissa, I love the way you broke this down, thank you. So often we blur these lines as if these are all one thing - lettinggoacceptancesurrender!!! But the simple way you put it seems to make it a little easier. Emotions are for letting go, situations and people are for acceptance and surrender is for every little thing and all of that is beyond our control. 💕💕💕
The letting go lesson is very hard for me, I know I have a long way to go but I keep trying. I have been totally out of the loop so perhaps you've already written about what happened two months ago to clarify this lesson for you. I'll be heading over to your wonderful new publication to see what's been happening for you❤️
Nah, nothing specific happened. I'm just taking better care of my mental & physical health, and that includes dropping all things that live rent-free in my head. It's for the greater good of my heart. 😊
"Allow things to BE without the need to analyze why they are that way. This seems to work surprisingly well!" It really does work. I've been practicing something similar and if I don't take time in the morning to calm and accept, my day and mind are way more chaotic.
I wrote a full response to your lovely comment and apparently it remained in my head rather than making it on to the page! Sheesh!
Thank you for being here my dear Jocelyn. I have often been fascinated how my ability to surrender and accept life seems so much easier in the morning! I think I need to work on that. However, if I miss a morning things do get more chaotic, just as you said.
Oh how many times I've done that, Donna! And me too. Mornings are my sacred time and even though I often find it challenging to wake and realize there is another day to be human, I also deeply need my spiritual practices first thing, or everything else feels off. xoxoxo
It really is. But YES, we ARE humaning together, arent' we? And that makes all the difference. And the practice of loving or acknowledging or accepting what is without trying to change it first is so so helpful right now. Because we cannot change what we cannot accept. 💖🙏

Always a timely reminder - I remember this post, Donna, but it is truly evergreen. 💚
Thanks Troy❤️
I remember this one and loved reading it again. Surrender isn’t giving up or giving in. 💯
It’s about letting go of our normal and instant response to things. Pause. Cogitate rather than than agitate. Move forward with something or nothing.
So simple an idea. So fucking difficult in practice.
Thank you friend 🙏
Yes, it's so hard to do consistently. I'll be fine until the shit hits the fan, or I'm tired, or someone upsets me, or, or, or.
I like cogitate rather than agitate! Thanks for being here Dee. It means a lot that you'd show up at this time in your life❤️

Ahhh, surrender: allowing, accepting, letting go. Thank you, Donna. 🙏
You’re welcome Renee❤️ Thanks for being here with me.

Well....I didn't learn to let go of things until I turned 53. That was only two months ago. Adulting is hard and it offers new lessons all the time.

Always love your words of wisdom 🩷
Cindy it's lovely to see you here! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment, it means a lot.

Been there. Done that. just goes to show we are human.
So true Susanna!

Yes sometimes it is hard to wake up and face being a human these days. But we are humaning together and that helps❤️
