A little dose of freedom
and other random tidbits
Welcome to my small corner of the internet where it’s my hope to guide us both to a life of possibility and well-being by examining what lies below the layers of daily life. If you are new here, welcome! I am grateful for your presence❤. You can find out more about me by clicking here.
Today I am sharing with you a few things I’ve recently come across that I love or found interesting.
Here are 4 key mechanisms that undermine our ability to assess taking a risk from staying too comfortable,
or worded a different way - four reasons I think we stay stuck in our lives, unwilling to tackle the next (seemingly scary) step:
1. We make that thing we want to do/have/be seem bigger than it is.
2. We exaggerate the consequences of taking it on.
3. We underestimate our ability to handle it.
4. We downplay the cost of NOT doing it.
This results in us being unwilling to take the very risks needed to live a meaningful life, and it can be subtle so it sneaks up on us.
Do any of these points resonate with you? I find myself living in #2 and 4 frequently. I tend to think that goal or idea will take too much effort (this is #2) so I think everything will be fine if I don’t do it (#4). Far too much work is required to quit the sugar and I really doubt it will destroy my physical & mental health, even though there are reams of science stating the opposite. This is me, living in the land of the unicorns, in total denial. Not cool.
I’m curious if you would like me to write a whole article about this. Don’t worry, not about me and the sugar thing but rather the implication of these 4 mechanisms and what we can do about it. I promise it won’t be boring.
This meme made me laugh! It’s amazing how much things have changed in our lifetime.
Sorry, I can’t attribute this meme to the creator as it was a random post. If you made it please identify yourself so I can give you the credit you deserve for your hilarious creation.
HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING
This makes me think. Ultimately, it’s about our brain pathways and what we are allowing to be created in there. The bottom line is if we go through life in a rage or irritable a lot of the time that’s how we will age. We can only change our behavior right this second, so go out there and smile at a stranger.
I get my guidance in many different ways, one of them is by pulling a card or randomly opening up a book. I’ve been accessing information this way for decades and, while not based on any science other than the wonderfully effective placebo, I have found it staggeringly powerful in my life.
I will go for months without doing this, then suddenly feel called to do so. Today I felt like I wanted to pull a card for you, for us really.
I sat very quietly, holding the intention of pulling a card for you, and my community here as a whole. I asked to be shown what we need to know right now and I pictured a beautiful connection between us, me here and you where you are right now (it was a cord of white light in case you’re wondering).
I pulled a card from my favorite Wealth & Wisdom deck that was created by my friend Jaden Sterling. I like this deck because it offers action steps, as well as some unexpected, useful cards I haven’t seen in other decks.
Today we got this FREEDOM card.
Sit quietly for a moment and ask, ‘Right at this very second what does freedom mean to me? What is the very next step I need to do to feel better than I do right now?’
Does this exercise mean you and I are going to have tremendous wealth & good fortune bestowed upon us? I think that is unlikely to happen right this very minute, but I’ll tell you what it offered me. As I was sitting quietly I felt myself very connected to you and when I finished this exercise I felt significantly better than before I started. Really, it’s the strangest (and most wonderful) thing. So if that’s a placebo I’ll have some more please.
In our quest for well-being we need to have tools in our toolbox to help us feel better. From that place we will have greater access to our deepest knowing, which is where our very own possibilities live.
After I pulled this card and wrote about it I looked at my Substack stats. I rarely do this because writing here is not about the numbers to me, I do this for the connection to you and other writers. But also, I am human, so I occasionally look! Today, after pulling the freedom card, I see I have reached the short term goal I set for myself. Holy smokes, I am thrilled. THANK YOU for helping me do that, it means the world to me.
May you move toward freedom, whatever that means to you. Honor yourself by getting very clear on WHAT that looks like so your brain has the ability to recognize it when it shows up (this part is based on the science of neuroplasticity). Remember good fortune tends to follow hard work so action must be taken to achieve freedom, it will not land in your lap. When you become unstuck, achieve your goal, or find treasure be sure to notice it and hold that goodness in your brain, that’s how it will get rewired. Give thanks. Sing out to the heavens in appreciation…just like I am right now.
Here are my questions for the day, you can number them in the comments if you want!
Do you like to pull a card or randomly open a book?
If you were/are a pizza delivery person do you feel like a mystical land pirate? If I was the delivery person you would NEVER get your pizza. It would not matter if I had a paper or digital map. My navigational skills are terrible I would likely end up eating your pizza while stuck in the back forty waiting for that mystical land pirate to give me directions!
Thank you for being here, it would be awesome if you hit the little ❤ for me.

I'm a fan of the Labyrinthos site, where you can pull a card virtually. Like you, I go through phases where I seem to do it every day and then go months without doing it.
I had a flash of insight from the freedom card—thank you for sharing!
I pull a card every morning Donna from the Angel & Ancestors set by Kyle Gray. Sometimes I will be guided to a book or passage or somewhere on the internet for guidance. It depends whether I listened the first time! I can also remember days before the internet.........
