I'm always going to prefer text to video, but you kept it short and sweet for my gnat-like video attention span. First, I love your necklace. I have one very similar to it that my husband gave me and I almost never take off. Second, I love this topic, and self-trust is something I'd love to cultivate more of. I have more connection to my body than I ever have, which took a lot of work on myself, but now there's step 2, which calls for not just listening but deciphering... much more challenging. I'm going to be more mindful this week with this advice and see how it plays for me.
Oh my gosh Kristi I responded to your comment but apparently only in my mind, I’m so sorry! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
It seems to me that you are becoming a self trust expert and your story is a perfect illustration of someone going from not trusting to trust in what they really need. Let me know how it goes for you paying closer attention this week❤️
I have never heard of ‘self-trust’ before, I get the concept but I had never heard it articulated like that. It made me start thinking about it whether I have much self-trust, and while I feel like I have more than I used to, it’s still something I very much need to cultivate.
I would be interested to hear more about how you have cultivated self-trust within yourself.
Michael, I appreciate your thoughts and I'm going to let your question roll around in my head! I think I cultivated self trust through years of trial and error and, even now, it ebbs and flows. One thing I don't talk about in this video or article is the different kinds of self-trust and what we can do with them, as well as how to cultivate them. Thanks for giving me some great future writing ideas!
Yeah I was thinking about self-trust after I read your post, and I kinda feel like in some circumstances and on some days I have more self trust, and then others times not so much.
If the pieces flow, I’ll be interested to read about “the different kinds of self trust and what we can do with them”
Loved the video! I honestly heard ocean waves and not traffic. I needed this message, I’ve had some intuitive thoughts about what I’m working on that I now know can’t be ignored! Prefect timing
I love that you heard ocean waves Jody!! The synchronicity of the message you needed and the timing of this post (which barely made it out due to many glitches) is perfect as you and I know! I am so glad❤
I'm glad the message resonated with you Carrie. As you know it will show up when you most are ready to hear it. Thank you for taking the time to read, listen and comment, it means a lot! xox
Thank you for pushing your excitement through your fear! We love you and your message. I loved hearing your voice for the first time...particularly with you lovely Canadian lilt ❤️
Wholeness....i think it always exists within us but we have to remove blinders placed on us by external opinions that we internalize into low selftrust. So for me its not becoming whole, it is learning to see my own wholeness. Begin by trusting that its there within me, and it seems less daunting a task to me than evolving into wholeness. Not sure if that makes sense.....
Whoa Jo! This is so good. Yes, it makes sense. Self trust is learning to see our own wholeness. That is it in a nutshell. Thank you for this, I like it much better than evolving into wholeness as well.
It's nice to find you here in the substack universe. I'm glad to 'see' you with your video. I am experimenting with the new technology on here so you had me at "I made a video for you=fear" :)
I saw you were from Canada on some other post so I figured I had to see what you are writing about and it's very much in line with what I love to read and write about myself. That was a bonus!
I've been using Zoom for the interviews I've done so far (two). Partly because I can then decide if I want just the audio or both. Because I have no idea (yet) how to edit the video, I took the audio and transcribed using one of the transcription apps. (That is a game changer!) I wish they had those back in the day when I was a journalist! It felt like magic.
I then was able to edit down the interview from the transcript so it was a better length for Substack. I will do the same with the other interview I did (although I may play around with the editing just to practise for future.)
I especially loved that you were willing to post your video despite it not being "perfect." Traffic noise be damned! :) I'm doing the same with my audio voice overs. I love how we can experiment with things on here.
I just popped onto your page and can’t wait to dive in! I look forward to doing that as soon as I can.
Hey you’re rocking it in the tech-figuring-out-department, well done!
My upcoming workshop is going to be on Zoom and I have my fingers crossed I remember to push all the right buttons! Please send good vibes😆
It’s very cool that you’re doing interviews. Did that come easier because you were a journalist? There was just a thread in Office Hours today about interview styles that was interesting.
Yes, I'm from the west coast. Vancouver Island. Where are your traffic noises coming from?
I am a naturally curious person and love asking questions, so it was my way to tap back into the journalist in me. I'm rusty though. My questions were waaaay too long. So, I won't be running either of them with video or audio. But, it was a very good exercise in watching it back to remind myself what makes a good interview.
And I did see the thread today on office hours and added my two cents. It's sometimes hard to follow along though! So many good tangents.
A fellow British Columbian, yay! I’m from Invermere in the East Kootenays. We are so lucky. We are both rusty and lucky. OMG I need to go to bed, I’m losing it!
Seriously, I’m guessing interviewing is a skill - so you will get much better. If you ever want to practice on me let me know. It can be off the record just for practice sake.
Hi Donna. I wanted to let you know I’m also happy to set up a zoom time with you so you can practise and refresh on the hosting side of the zoom meeting ahead of your workshop. I just had to do that myself recently too.
Sounds good! Both the interview and bedtime! My eyes are blurring catching up on my reading from the last few days worth of great stories on here. Look forward to connecting again.
Thank you for this, Donna! I think self-trust is everything! At the beginning of the year, I made a commitment to invoking comfort and it's been fascinating to observe the judgments people have about that, including the idea that we don't grow unless we're uncomfortable. I'm thinking maybe the reason behind that way of thinking is a lack of self-trust, that we have to rely on pain, discomfort, or dissatisfaction to motivate us rather than simply trusting ourselves to move how we need in the moment.
Jenna I love this and would like to hear more! If you have an article you've written about your commitment to invoking comfort please feel free to link it here so everyone can read it. While I hope I'm not judgmental about it, I am one of those who often speak out about the need to occasionally get uncomfortable in our lives. But I also agree with you about trusting ourselves enough to allow our inner guidance to show us the way.
I think there are two things at play, the first being what you said that many folks rely on other things that are inherently uncomfortable because they have not learned to listen to themselves. Then there is the other side, which is that we may be called to do something our heart and soul know is important but our thinking mind does not agree. In moving forward there may be fear or discomfort. This is the kind of discomfort I am talking about. On the other side of this temporary uncertainty lies something better but we may need to face our fear/discomfort to get there. We can get very good at doing this, it's a practiced skill, and when we reach that place there is no discomfort but only the surrender and trust that you are talking about.
I'd love to hear more from you on this because making a commitment to comfort sounds infinitely appealing❤ Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment.
Yes! You nailed it! 🤗♥️ I did notice that, once I committed to invoking comfort, I had to first get really clear on what that means to me, what is my definition of comfort. For me, comfort and ease are not the same thing. After spending a month making lists and lists of words, what I came to is that, for me, comfort is a foundation of strength upon which I can stand, and from which I can rest or stretch depending on what is required. What I really came to (again, just for my own experience) is that comfort is faith. I'm loving this conversation, Donna, thank you so much for creating and welcoming it! Here is the link to my post about invoking comfort:
I loved this article so much! I will be sharing it with my subscribers and touching much more on it, thank you.
I have a lot of work to do today but just want to keep going down the rabbit hole with you on this (I love that) so will have to save it for another day.
Hey Donna, I LOVED seeing and hearing to you today. It's beautiful to be able to connect with you in that way. Self-trust is big on my agenda this week, both personally and as a collective message, so I'm also adoring the synchronicity of that. 🙏
Oooh, I love the synchronicity of this too Louise and look forward to reading your message. Self trust in the collective is an interesting concept! If we do our individual work we will bolster the whole and sometimes when it's feeling overwhelming I must lock into that so I don't despair.
🫶👏 Loved the video. These tools are awesome! That Martha Beck image is such a hoot and also true. 😿 Thank you for the reminder to listen to the body and listen again.
Martha definitely says, or writes, things that are both hilarious and true! I appreciate your kind words about the video Tara, it's been quite a while so I was dusting off the cobwebs.

The new format is a nice change. I liked it - among other things it brought you to life. I have a better image of Donna now.
Eeek Janice, that's what I was afraid of🤣 That's certainly the fear part showing up!
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it.

I look forward to the Sunday email!
I'm so glad Carrie!
Thank you for pushing your excitement through your fear! We love you and your message. I loved hearing your voice for the first time...particularly with you lovely Canadian lilt ❤️
Thanks Dee, I appreciate your kind words about my video.
Folks thought I had a lilt when I moved to California, but then when I landed in Texas they really thought I sounded funny!🤣
It only comes out when you say Aboat 😉
Haha! Here I am, way up north, smiling away. In my next video I'll be sure to throw that one in a few times just for you!!
👏👏
😎
Well done Donna… bright light shining :-)
Oh Marilyn you are just the best to say this, thank you❤ My heart needed that right now.
Ienjoyed the video
Thank you Lorraine!

Paolo thank you so much for taking the time to check it out and for your kind comments. It means a lot to me.

Kim thank you so much for hopping on here with your comment, I appreciate it!
Oh man, that technology!
It is a big struggle for me. What kind of tech are you working on? Is it for your Substack? I’d love to hear more.
I used to do more video but haven’t in quite some time so it was an eye opening experience.
