I'm living between fear & excitement
I made a video for you = fear, I made a video for you = excitement
I made this short video for you (just over 2 minutes) to share a few of my thoughts about learning to trust ourselves. As you will see I am low-tech (likely the understatement of the year), recording outside my office with all the traffic. Please bear with me Dear One. It’s times like this when I remind myself I am about wholeheartedness, not perfection. If you’re about living with heart instead of perfection (and can put up with the terrible traffic noise in this recording) please show your support by dropping me a ❤.
Self-trust, how can we get some?
I learned from the author Martha Beck that listening to what is deeply true for us is like petting a cat from front to back while moving away from our truth to please our culture feels like petting the same cat back to front. It does not feel good!
When we acknowledge our longing to be whole and give it the wings it needs to fly, we can move past our ingrained beliefs to ask questions about them. We begin to see with a wider lens which allows us to shed our judgment of ourselves and others. Learning to fly might hurt at first but it’s from that place we will soar to great heights. That sentence may sound like a bunch of hokey self-help BS, some overused words, so let’s ask, to what great heights will we soar?
I believe doing the work to develop self-trust helps us to stop judging ourselves and others, it allows us to go with the flow and be more accepting. To me, this is the ultimate form of peace, the height to which I wish to soar.
I’m curious and would love to hear from you in the comments,
Do you think self-trust is a skill we can learn?
What is your favorite trick to tune in to what is going on for you?
Do you feel you’ve got better at doing this?
It’s been my dream to write, teach and build a lovely online community. I am kicking off the first workshop, Mindset for Real People: Science-based, concrete tools to create a better life, on Wednesdsay, September 20 at 11:00 MST. To CELEBRATE I am offering this first one to all subscribers, both free and paid. Every workshop after this will be available to only paid subscribers. As a subscriber you will also have access to the replay. I hope you join me.
As the days turn into fall may you move toward more wholehearted living by noticing what your body is telling you, getting clear on it (this may take time) and processing what you learn. There is only one you and we need you!

I'm always going to prefer text to video, but you kept it short and sweet for my gnat-like video attention span. First, I love your necklace. I have one very similar to it that my husband gave me and I almost never take off. Second, I love this topic, and self-trust is something I'd love to cultivate more of. I have more connection to my body than I ever have, which took a lot of work on myself, but now there's step 2, which calls for not just listening but deciphering... much more challenging. I'm going to be more mindful this week with this advice and see how it plays for me.
Lovely piece Donna, and nice video by the way.
I have never heard of ‘self-trust’ before, I get the concept but I had never heard it articulated like that. It made me start thinking about it whether I have much self-trust, and while I feel like I have more than I used to, it’s still something I very much need to cultivate.
I would be interested to hear more about how you have cultivated self-trust within yourself.
Thanks Donna
