Coming to this today after posting my wood-cutter essay makes me chuckle a bit. I'd say I did "show up" and also "elevate my energy" by chopping trees today. Maybe I need more time in work gloves. I'm happy that I met the test. It's true: Loudypants was pretty subdued while my inner Paul Bunyan was in charge. :-)
Once we get to a certain age there aren’t very many opportunities to “dance for five hours to great music.” So wherever you were that allowed that to happen, you go girl. Those toenails will grow back.
Kim you read my mind! That's exactly what I was thinking, "I don't know if I'll get to dance like this, with these people, to this band so I need to make the most of every second". It was awesome.
Not a dumb injury at all! My dad once had to pull off all his toenails after running a marathon. The things we do in the name of— fill in the blank.
The etymology of compare is fascinating. How did we bastardize its original meaning? Maybe as we search for equality what most humans see are differences. We are like your rock picture. Equal and different. We are all rocks. If you continue the comparison theme and you really want to freak out your readers talk about the fact that we are all one. 🥰🙏
I've lost toenails running as well and, interestingly, it seems so much more 'noble and okay' to be injured doing something like that rather than in a bar. I am my own comparison experiment apparently! Running is higher level than dancing...says who?
I would love to have the skill to write about non-duality but don't know if my teaching abilities go far enough to explain it. You never know though!
What kind of footwear did you have on or was this barefoot dancing? At any rate, good for you for having so much fun and how did the tops of the toes get wrecked? So...I must include, silly You. All good in the end. The lesson: what could I have done differently and still have danced for 5 hours? Be prepared for your next rave.
A great question Ms. Engel! I intentionally wore my most comfortable boots for the specific purpose of rocking my socks off (although I didn't think it would be literally!). They are the boots I've used for about 10 years for speaking engagements because they are so comfortable and I can move easily in them. The next day I thought I better examine them, certain they were ruined, but they were in perfect condition! Let's just say I was doing a lot of jumping around.
I will never look at "comparison" the same again. I never knew this 😊
PS: Since you asked for dive bar injuries....I wish we could attach photos into comments lol. In Jamaica, let's just say the dance style between men and women is "rigorous." I have some photos of a particular night in the DIVIEST of bars and the huge bruises all over my body the next day 🤣 I was embarrassed to be out in public looking like a battered wife 😬
Oh man. I love it that u were dancing your buns off (I have seen those awesome moves many a time!) but sorry to hear about your toes! Hope it doesn’t hurt. I too suffered from a dancing toe injury recently. I was wearing my beloved Birkenstocks while dancing around a fire with friends in Northern India … I damaged a nerve a couldn’t feel three of my toes for about 8 months. So yah. Totally worth it! Ha ha ha.
YOU WIN THE DANCING INJURY AWARD Rosie! I was in an awesome venue but not as awesome as a fire in India. Also that is a much more serious injury as I'm already starting to recover, it only took a week🤣 Luckily both our feet will be sufficiently recovered for our next adventure that is coming very soon!
Paolo I appreciate your use of the word honor. I am going to hold it front of mind when my sneaky self speaks up and work to honor those differences. I have been doing that more over the last few years where I rejoice and hold space for the greatness of others and, of course, I have more work to do. Thank you for this.
Donna, thanks so much for sharing all your precious words of wisdom, I really appreciate this so much. Its certainly a great help with the comparison game; which for me seems to be a continuous struggle. THANK YOU
Anne, I appreciate your kind words. Some pieces are much more difficult to write than others so it's very helpful to get feedback if it makes a difference in someone's life. Thank you for taking the time to tell me.
I think we are all in this continuous struggle together (but I just started to reread Eckhart Tolle's classic book so maybe it will transform me, haha!)

Good point Tara. It's interesting how that worked out and afterward you wrote an excellent post from a very real place!

For some reason the shopping cart incident came to mind. ❤️
That was a doozy (and oh-so-fun!!). A lot of alcohol was consumed during that adventure. How did we not land ourselves in jail😂?!?!
Landing in the hospital was almost worse than jail lol. Fun was had!!
True and true!

Dancing is very athletic!
Either that or I'm pretty out of shape! I'll go with the former🤣

Full contact dancing! I love it. I can imagine the dancing in Jamaica is pretty awesome.
Leave it to Jenna to show us deep insight into 'comparison' - love her! Take care of your tootsies! No shame in a dance-floor injury... xo 💃
Thanks Hon❤

Making equal 🟰 equanimity. To compare is to honor how things are different. That together it is a cohesive force. We are one. ❤️
I love this. To compare is to honor how things are different. Yes, we are one. 🥰
